Clean Energy, Inc. and the City of Newport Beach, Calif., united to set up a new compressed natural gas (CNG) fuelling station in the city. The splendid opening was conducted on May 19.

Situated in the City’s General Services Corporation Yard, the CNG fuelling station will remain open 24 hours a day, seven days a week to serve public fleets and private fomites.

The City will receive a $0.05 (5 cent) royalty fee for every gallon sold at the station. The city press released that this arrangement was as per an agreement with Clean Energy.

The City of Newport Beach lately bought 4 CNG refuse accumulation trucks and will be looking at CNG supplied sedans and light trucks as it substitutes vehicles in the future.

Mayor Keith Curry explicated, “Converting to CNG is the right thing to do fiscally and environmentally. This public-private partnership will reduce our city energy costs, generate new revenue, and help clean up our environment. Being energy efficient is an important element of our Fiscal Sustainability Plan.”

Other companies and agents which will be using the refuelling station include AT&T, Yellow Cab, Waste Management, CR&R, Airport Shuttles, Athens Street Sweeping, and Ware Disposal.

Altech-Eco Corporation, which is a ground breaker in alternative fuel transition technologies for automobiles, declared they have received a Certificate of Conformity from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for their compressed natural gas (CNG) devoted alteration system for the Ford Focus models 2008 & 2009 which is equipped with the 2.0 liter engine.
Under the EPA’s categorization system this dedicated transition conversion system has now attained the cleanest possible expelling rating for an inner combustion engine. Thus it qualifies for a $4,000.00 Federal Tax Credit.
This CNG Focus attains innovative cleaner discharges while representing the enormous environmental welfares and big cost savings of natural gas as a conveyance fuel. Par Neiberger the Director of Certification and Regulatory Affairs of Altech-Eco, said “We are extremely proud that this is the cleanest CNG conversion system in today’s marketplace, and that it achieves emissions results cleaner than any internal combustion vehicle currently being produced by an automotive manufacturer. This vehicle is now available for immediate sale to Government, municipalities and industry, as well as the consumer”. Altech-Eco’s EPA permitted CNG fuel transition system helps the environment by allowing for the cleanest discharges of any production inner combustion vehicle.

The zooming mercury has contributed to a new gush in demand for CNG changeover kits in the city of Surat, India. The number of car owners switching over to CNG has more or less doubled in the last two months. The climb in the demand is comprehensible. With CNG evidencing a cheap alternative against petrol, Surtis are vanquishing the heat in the console of their cars.

The official data from Regional Transport Office also confirms that the registration of CNG kits in private cars has nearly doubled in March and April when compared to previous months. In April alone, there was a registration of around 1,000 cars against the average 500 per month. It is expected that the CNG kit registration will increase further by the end of May.

There are approximately 100 retrofitters marketing CNG kits fabricated by around 29 companies in the country and also in countries like Japan and Italy. The prices of CNG kit, which was between Rs.45,000 and Rs. 50,000, is now only between Rs. 30,000 and Rs. 40,000

AFS are makers of natural gas engine controllers which can be used in compressed natural gas vehicles and includes Mahindra’s Maxx Maxi Truck. The proclamation comes after the company’s supply deal was signed with Mumbai’s Tata Motors around 2 years ago.
Jim Perry the AFS CEO did not reveal the measure of the Mahindra deal but informed the Cleantech Group that the 2 deals are sure to aid the company step-up its share of the little-but-developing market for compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles in India.
The roadblock to the adoption of CNG operated vehicle all over the world is insufficient distribution systems. India possesses the infrastructure for CNG refueling with 180 such natural gas fueling stations in Delhi alone.

As a substitute fuel, natural gas has many constructive attributes. Natural gas vehicle functions using compressed gas stored in a fuel tank. The tube like shaped tank is normally attached to the back, top or undercarriage of a vehicle and is filled again in a manner similar to a normal gasoline tank.

To run competently, a natural gas powered engine needs many modifications from its gasoline counterpart. Some natural gas vehicles are bio-fuel vehicle which means that they can run on either gasoline or natural gas thus increasing the available range of travel.
A main restraint to using natural gas powered vehicles is their restricted range between fill-ups and also a readily available refueling infrastructure is at present not in place.
Honda has produced one of the best natural gas vehicles presently available in the market. The 2008 Honda Civic GX NGV is an outstanding example of what the future may hold for natural gas vehicles.

But the cars get a petite amount of miles to a tank that is around 100 miles or so. The drivers also complain of poor acceleration.
Honda offers a natural gas car in the US, for which the demand is very low. This is because the few cars on the roads mean CNG service stations are almost impossible to find. The need of service stations leads to the demand for CNG-powered cars to be low. The restraint of gas prices, in spite of the recent jump back up, means US and European consumers are also feeling less of a pinch when filling up the tank thus reducing the demand for lower fuel cost alternatives.
Even though it is uncertain at the consumer level, but a strong level of support for greater use of CNG power for trucks in the US prevails. It is likely that the government involvement is required, in terms of subsidizing fueling infrastructure or the procurement of CNG-powered vehicles themselves.

Mercedes-Benz starts with CNG, thats a fact! Like a lot of companies, Mercedes-Benz has their own name for it. NGT, this stands for Natural Gas Technology. Below a small video about their product.

With this new technology, Mercedes-Benz is also trying to be one of brands that is using this technology for a better environment. Maybe it’s a bit soon, but within a couple of years, you can tank at almost every gas-station CNG (Compressed Natural Gas). Like every other car brand, Mercedes-Benz is also having their opinion why you should drive on CNG or NGT. But one thing is for sure. It’s much cleaner then regular fuel and more quiet then regular fuels.

Off course we all want to know which models of Mercedes-Benz are able to use this technology.

Buying a green car is the first step you can do, to support the fight against global warming. But to drive, you should read a couple of usefull tips we found on the Internet.

Thanks to the website of greenercars, here a nice list of tips which are very usefull to drive clean.
Off course this is also usefull for Hybrid cars, hydrogen cars or other type of cars like bio-diesels or even regular gasoline cars.

Driving green

Buying green is just the first step in reducing the environmental impacts of automobile use. Your choice of vehicle is most important, but how you drive and how well you maintain your car, van, or light truck will also make a difference.

Avoid “jack rabbit” starts and aggressive driving. Flooring the gas pedal not only wastes gas, it leads to drastically higher pollution rates. One second of high-powered driving can produce nearly the same volume of carbon monoxide emissions as a half hour of normal driving.

Think ahead. Try to anticipate stops and let your vehicle coast down as much as possible. Avoid the increased pollution, wasted gas, and wear on your brakes created by accelerating hard and braking hard.

Follow the speed limit! Driving 75 mph instead of 65 mph will lower your fuel economy by about 10 percent, and can dramatically increase tailpipe pollution in many vehicles.

When possible, plan your trips to avoid rush hour. Stop-and-go driving burns gas and increases emissions of smog-forming pollutants.

Combine trips. Warmed-up engines and catalysts generate much less air pollution, so combining several short trips into one can make a big difference.

Take a load off. Carrying around an extra 100 pounds reduces fuel economy by about 1 percent. Take a few moments to unload your cargo area.

If your vehicle has it, use overdrive gear at cruising speeds. When driving a manual transmission, shift up as soon as possible. Running in a higher gear decreases the rpm and will decrease fuel use and engine wear.

Try using the vents and opening windows to cool off before you turn on the air conditioner. Air conditioner use increases fuel consumption, increases NOx emissions in some vehicles, and involves environmentally damaging fluids.

Unlike many older cars and trucks, modern vehicles don’t need to warm up and they have automatic chokes, so you don’t need to step on the gas pedal before starting the engine.

Prudent Parking

Park in the shade in summer to keep your car cool and minimize evaporation of fuel.

If you have to park outdoors, windshield shades can cut down on summer heat and help keep the frost off in the winter.

If you have a garage, use it as much as possible to keep your car warm in winter and cool in summer.

More info about all of this, can be found on this great website of greenercars.org.

To get your vehicle parked without any scraches, you can always use parking sounds / sensors to park your vehicle safely And so you can see on their website, this could be very usefull.

To get back to the CNG (compressed natural gas) cars you should get good insurance for you car, because these cars are not so commen, and people might steal this car from you.
